Many thanks to Gina at Singledust for nominating me – I do love a challenge, especially one that involves something as divine as music.
The Rules
1. Thank the person who nominated you. Thank you once again, Gina.
2. Share one of your favorite song/lyrics one at a time for three days.
3. Nominate three other bloggers each day. (Or one, one is probably enough)
Nomination
I nominate Devoted and Divorced. Though I’m not familiar with the tracks you write of (haven’t got the opportunity to try them out yet) I do admire your posts and your resilience. Hope you can participate!
The Song
We Know The Way
When I first heard this song, I had shivers up my spine. The whole movie was incredibly beautiful (a given, I suppose, when you say the word ‘Disney’).
Not only did it introduce me to a beautiful culture, it also had the powerful message of being brave enough to follow your dreams, even if sometimes you may have to go a little ‘beyond the reef’.
This song is all about voyaging and breaking your limits, in the hope and faith that Home is never too far away, for you can always find your way back.
“It’s called wayfinding, princess. It’s not just sails and knots, it’s seeing where you’re going in your mind. Knowing where you are by knowing where you’ve been.”
Lyrics
Lyrics: Opetaia Foa’i, Lin- Manuel Miranda
Performers: Te Vaka, Lin-Manuel Miranda
Translation of the Samoan and Tokelauan sections from here.
Tatou o tagata folau vala’auina
Le atua o sami tele e o mai
Ua ava’e le lu’itau e lelei
Tapenapena
(SAMOAN) We are voyagers
Summoned by the gods
Of this mighty ocean to come
We take up the good challenge
Get ready
Olo, olo vaka
Canoes on the move
Aue, aue
Nuku i mua
Te manulele e tataki e
Aue, aue
Te fenua, te mālie
Nae ko hakilia kaiga e
(TOKELAUAN) Oh! Oh!
There is land up ahead
A bird in flight to take us there
Oh! Oh!
This beautiful land
The place i was looking for
We will make our home
We read the wind and the sky when the sun is high
We sail the length of the seas on the ocean breeze
At night, we name every star
We know where we are
We know who we are, who we are
Aue, aue
We set a course to find
A brand new island everywhere we roam
Aue, aue
We keep our island in our mind
And when it’s time to find home
We know the way
Aue, aue
We are explorers reading every sign
We tell the stories of our elders in a never-ending chain
Aue, aue
Te fenua, te mālie
Nā heko hakilia
We know the way
nice choice! I loved this movie too, and I worked with Samoan people when I was in New Zealand, they have a beautiful culture and manner. i like how you say it gives you courage, indeed girls should have roles models like these, who are brave and inspire us to be more than what we think we are capable of. love your choices! the are so meaningful

Oh, never. You know the best thing about them? They all have something really genuine to tell you, some deep message. And they just leave you with a golden feeling! ..Yes feelings don’t exactly have colors but you get my point!

Yesss! I used to think they were movies for really small kids (when I was one) so I never watched it. Then one day, one of them were coming on TV so I watched it and that’s probably when I fell in love with them.
They give you hope and a nice warm feeling and that’s my favorite feeling :’)

Oh dear. That made me laugh – that you didn’t watch a movie for small kids when you WERE a small kid, can’t we all relate! 🙂
And yes, that’s my favorite feeling too. ❤ Like magic!

My sister was binge watching all the Barbie movies and I tried it once and I absolutely loved it so I watched all the ones she had left with her.
I hate how Barbie is known to be “only for girls” but the stories are so good.
